As our 12th Get Safe Online Week gets set to launch next Monday, it seems impossible that last year’s ground-breaking Scammer Nanas campaign is now a year old.
Get Safe Online Scammer Nanas campaign
In the campaign, we recruited six nanas aged between 66 and 76 to the Scammer Nana Academy, to become more internet-savvy, and teach them how to put together a phishing email which they then fired off to their own grandchildren. This was against a background of supporting research which showed that whilst older people are generally targeted more by cybercriminals, it is the younger generation which is more liable to fall for the scams.
As well as generating a massive amount of interest in the press and on social media, the campaign was featured on BBC’s The One Show.
At Get Safe Online, we focus on being the best possible resource to help individuals and small businesses to protect themselves on the internet, and not talk about our own successes. However, the Scammer Nanas campaign continues to collect plaudits along the way for its effectiveness.
We’re delighted that this week, we won the prestigious PR Week Award for Public Sector Campaign of the Year, announced at a gala event at London’s Grosvenor House.
This follows successes in the equally highly-regarded Sabre EMEA awards in May, where we won Diamond and Gold Awards.
