DVLA warns about driving licence pics posted online

18th September 2013

Motorists are being warned by the DVLA that posting images of their driving licence on social media websites can put them at a high risk of identity fraud.

Young drivers who are proud of having just received their full licence are amongst the main groups of people doing this.

The agency has become aware of instances where fraudsters have been using pictures of genuine driving licences that have been posted on social media websites, as part of advertisements selling fake driving licenses.

The pictures provide the fraudsters with enough personal information to commit identity fraud and go on to either sell on the information to other criminals, or enable them to open bank accounts or obtain loans, credit cards and goods. The victims' – including bank balance and ability to obtain credit – could be compromised as a result.
