Could you be an Online Safety Ambassador?

Would you like to help others learn how to stay safe online?

Join our team of online safety ambassadors and get free online training and tools to help your colleagues, communities and loved ones stay safe online.

Renfrewshire Council, in partnership with Get Safe Online, is looking for staff or volunteers working in the public or charity sector to help educate and support others to be safe online. All you need is a basic understanding of the internet and a passion for helping others.

Council colleague and online safety ambassador Peter enjoys being able to help others. He says:

“The only way we can really protect ourselves is through knowledge; learning how to spot a scam and knowing what to do about it. It also means you have the tools to be safer online at home, and you can support your family and friends when they need help. That’s why I signed up to become an online safety ambassador”.

What to expect

To become an online safety ambassador, you will complete a short application form, so we can learn a little about you and why you are interested in becoming an online safety ambassador.

A Disclosure Scotland background check will then be required, as you may have come into contact with vulnerable people during the course of your role as an ambassador.  Making an application is simple if you don’t already have one of these, just click Apply for basic disclosure – mygov.scot to be taken to the Form

Our Get Safe Online experts will then guide you through two online training sessions, each lasting between two and three hours.

You must attend one Session 1 and one Session 2 course to complete the training, and you should get your line manager’s permission to attend any training during working hours. You can choose from the following dates (and you can do Session 1 & 2 on the same day where offered):

Session 1 Thursday 31st August 6pm – 9pm OR Friday 1st September 10am – 1pm

Session 2 Friday 1st September 2pm – 4pm OR Monday 4th September 6pm – 8pm

Once your training is complete, you will then sign the “GetSafeOnline” Ambassador Scheme Agreement and receive a certificate recognising you as a member of our online safety ambassadors network.

To sign up or to ask any questions, please email [email protected] by Friday 21st July.
