Fake National Savings website targets pensioners

April 28th 2015

Over 65s are being warned to watch out for a bogus NS&I (National Savings & Investments) website set up by fraudsters.

A number of members of the public have been cold called by the fraudsters and have been offered the chance to invest in 65+ Bonds (also known as Pensioner Bonds). Others simply searching for the official website (for example via Google and other search engines) could be directed to the fake site, which then asks them to supply contact information. Whether cold called or enquiring via the site, victims are then receiving a follow up email and/or phone call from the fraudsters, who request evidence of identity documents and bank account details either over the phone or by sending the victims fake forms to complete.

A common name that appears on the emails sent by the fraudsters has been ‘Kevin Archer’ – but other names may well be used.

Avoid being a victim of fraud:

– Do not pass personal or banking information to companies that cold call you or make unsolicited contact in any other way.

– Please note that the only website address that is legitimate is http://www.nsandi.com.

– National Savings & Investments (NS&I) do not make cold calls, so do not enter into discussion with cold callers claiming to be from NS&I.

If you have been a victim of fraud or suspect a company of fraud please contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or via the online reporting tool at www.actionfraud.police.uk
