27th July, 2006

GET SAFE ONLINE CAMPAIGN REACHES CZECH REPUBLIC

UK internet security campaign helps fight international problem

The Cabinet Office and the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Informatics are happy to announce the launch of a Czech language version of the successful Get Safe Online website. The new website www.bezpecneonline.cz, which launched in the Czech Republic earlier this summer, takes content from www.getsafeonline.org and is designed to help Czech consumers and small business protect themselves and their money when using the Internet.

The Czech site was developed following an enquiry from the Czech Ministry of Informatics, which was looking to create an internet safety campaign. Get Safe Online is a unique partnership between government and industry, which was launched on 27 October 2005 to address the rising tide of online crime by ensuring people have the information they need to stay safe when online.

David Kotris, from the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Informatics said; “Having seen the success of the Get Safe Online campaign and website in the UK, we were happy to work together with the UK team to get our site established. We’re confident it will serve an important purpose in giving people in the Czech Republic the information and resources they need to keep themselves and their families safe when using the Internet.”

Pat McFadden, Cabinet Office Minister and government spokesperson for Get Safe Online, commented; “The UK takes very seriously the fight against internet crime and we are working with other countries to tackle it. We’re happy to support the Czech initiative and hope we can work with other countries in the future to spread the Get Safe Online message.”
